L. Bernard Hairston is the founding president of 100 Black Men of Central Virginia and Executive Director of Community Engagement with the Albemarle County Public Schools. He is married to Gwendolyn Lipscomb Hairston and father of Brandon Guy Hairston. Dr. Hairston is a graduate of Norfolk State University, Virginia State University, and Virginia Tech University. He has been a middle school teacher, coach (baseball, wrestling and track), and middle and high school principal. His theme song is “Don’t Worry be Happy.”

Wes Bellamy is the Vice Mayor for the City of Charlottesville. He serves as the President of the Black Professional Network of Charlottesville. He is also the Director of Helping Young People Evolve (HYPE) which is a boxing and step dance mentoring program for boys and girls in the greater Charlottesville, VA and Columbia, SC area. Bellamy is also a teacher at Albemarle High School and President of the Charlottesville Albemarle Alliance of Black School Educators (CAABSE). He is a graduate of South Carolina State University, earning a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and is currently earning his Masters in Education Administration and Supervision at Virginia State University. In December, he was named as one of the "Distinguished Dozen" by the Daily Progress as an indivual making an impact in the area.

A Florida native, Wendell Green attended Miami Southridge High School. At Miami Southridge he lettered in football and track. He continued his football career at Glenville State College in WV. A four year starter on the football team, he was a member of the 1993 Conference Champion. In 1993 he also competed for the NAIA National Championship. Wendell Green graduated from Glenville State in 1994 earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Behavioral Science. He moved back to Miami after college and worked as a Group Home Director for 5 years at Sunrise Community, Inc. He moved to the Charlottesville area in 1999, transferring to Resource for Independence of VA, Inc. in Fairfax, VA (an affiliate of Sunrise Community). He worked as a Group Home Director, Independent Living Coordinator and was later promoted to Executive Director. In 2001 he changed careers and began teaching at Orange County High School. He earned a Masters of Education from the University of Virginia in 2005. He taught at Charlottesville High School for 2 years. In 2007 he began working at Albemarle High School where he teaches and coaches football.
Wendell Green is the father of 3 boys: Cameron, Brice, and Torry.

I retired as a teacher from the Albemarle County Public Schools. My Bachelor’s degree was received from Hampton University and Master’s from UVa.
Since retiring, I have been active in activities at my Church and in numerous civic and fraternal organizations in Esmont- my hometown.
Graham Paige

Rickey is a native of Chesapeake and has spent the past 38 years in Central Virginia. He was a public school teacher for 17 years and has served as a pastor for 31 years. He has served as the senior pastor of the Union Run Baptist Church in Shadwell for the past 25 years. Rev. Dr. White loves to read and write. He has penned several children’s books and one adolescent book that was read by the seventh and eight graders of the 2012 M-cubed Algebra Enrichment Camp sponsored by the 100 Black Men of Central Virginia. He is a mentor to several elementary, middle and high school students. You can often find him working with these students in the various schools sharing nuggets of knowledge and wisdom to help them become more successful. Rickey and his wife, Natalie have been married for 34 years and have three children, two son-in-laws and two grandchildren. Dr. White holds degrees from UVA, VA Union and VA University of Lychnburg.

Robert Brown, a retired teacher of Albemarle County. He is a 1966 graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, with a major in Vocational Agricultural and General Science. Robert was a teacher in the Albemarle County for thirty Nine year. Robert is married with two children.

David Edward Simmons, Jr., is a graduate of Caroline County Public Schools. A registered nurse, Clinician IV and Clinical Coordinator of the Nephrology outpatient clinic at the University of Virginia Health System, he received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia School of Nursing in 1984 and a Master of Science in Nursing in 1993. He currently serves as Chair of the Health and Wellness, and Communication and Public Relations committees of the 100 Black Men of Central Virginia, Chair, of the Charlottesville Citizen‘s Advisory Panel, and president of the Interfraternal Council of Charlottesville. David also is an adjunct faculty at UVA School of Nursing. David is a former Board of Directors member of: National Black Nurses Association, Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC), Offender Aid and Restoration (OAR) and the City of Charlottesville Community Development Block Grant Task Force (CDBG). David is a founding member and past president of the Charlottesville chapter of the National Black Nurses Association. He is a past Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Virginia, Jefferson Lodge No. 20 of Free and Accepted Masons, Charlottesville, Virginia, David currently serves as Sentinel, Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Virginia, Prince Hall Affiliation, Charlottesville, Virginia and is a 32nd degree Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret, Acron Consistory, Roanoke, Va. He also isKeeper of Records and Seal of the Xi Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,Inc.

Dr. Marcus L. Martin is Professor and past chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and currently Vice President and Chief Officer for Diversity and Equity at the University of Virginia.
A native of Covington, Virginia, he earned bachelor’s degrees in pulp and paper technology (1970) and chemical engineering (1971) from North Carolina State University and was employed as a production chemical engineer at WESTVACO in Covington, Virginia. A member of the charter class of Eastern Virginia Medical School and the first African American graduate, he earned his medical degree in 1976.
Dr. Martin is the PI of the Virginia- North Carolina Alliance with NSF grant support of $8.5million to date in support of increasing under-represented minority college students receiving undergraduate degrees in the STEM fields. Dr. Martin is also a member of the Kenan Institute of Engineering Technology and Science Board of Directors.

Col. Martin V. Burks III
Martin is a Charlottesville native an a businessman. He graduated from Lane
High School, the University of Richmond and Central Michigan University. He
retired from the army and now a manager of JF Bell Funeral Home. He is
involved in his church, the Jefferson School Foundation, a board member of
the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce and a member of Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity.

Martin Burks IV
Martin is a Charlottesville native and a physician. He is a graduate of Albermarle highschool, University of Virginia School of Engineering, Darden school of Business and university of Virginia School of Medicine. He is an avid golfer, sports fan and passionate about mentoring In science and technology.

Bernard D. Whitsett, II is President and CEO of Legacy Asset Management Board, LLC, a financial/investment management advisory boutique. Prior to pursuing his entrepreneurial efforts, Bernard was a Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s Wealth Management Program.
Previously, Bernard was a Consultant for the Paradigm Consulting Group, LLC. Bernard advised clients on a variety of investment issues, ranging from researching funding options for potential start-ups to managing and administering the orderly liquidation of clients assets while overseeing the day-to-day operations.
Prior to Paradigm Consulting, Bernard was Principal and Senior Portfolio Manager for Prudential Fixed Income's Taxable short-term team, responsible for the management of taxable all short-term bonds and money markets funds which totaled more than $20 billion.
In 2004, Bernard received the Money Fund Report's "Top Manager Award" for achieving the highest returns for 2003 in the government category with assets less than $1 Billion. In 2003, Bernard received the coveted Career Focus Eagle Award from the National Eagle Leadership Institute for his outstanding leadership in both business and community service.
He joined Prudential Financial in 1990. Prior to Prudential, Bernard was a Vice President at DLJ Securities Corp., where he was underwriting manager and head of the government agency bond- trading desk. He previously worked in a similar capacity for Harris Government Securities, Inc. Bernard began his career in 1981 as a money market trader and later a government securities sales representative at Continental Bank.
Bernard received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia and a MBA in Finance from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
Bernard is a proud father of three sons; Bernard DePriest, Jackson Lightfoot, and Neal Easton. And he is married to Mrs. Andrea Copeland-Whitsett.

William T. Coles, Sr. is a retired business executive and pastor. As a business executive he held positions of Vice- President of Customer Support, Director of Strategic Projects and Business research, and Director of International Sales and Operations. In his ministerial capacity he is pastor of two churches, the Loving Church of God In Christ Charlottesville VA and the Pure Gospel Church of God In Christ Bedford VA. He is educated in electronic technology, liberal arts, international business and business administration; attending United Electronics Institute, Piedmont Virginia Community College, Michigan State (VIPP), and Mary Baldwin respectively.

Charles A. Lewis serves as co-chair of the 100's Membership & Public Relations committees. He is a small business owner of an event company, and Telemedicine Systems Engineer at the University of Virginia Health System. Charles is active in surrounding communities with multiple civic organizations. He is also a proud family man.

Michael Terry worked for the Charlottesville City Schools for 35 years in the roles of teacher, department chairperson, curriculum specialist, K-12 science coordinator, dean of students, associate principal and varsity tennis coach. After retiring from the school system, he was a senior project director for the UVA Darden/Curry Partnership for Leaders in Education until his retirement in 2011.

Mr. Dan Sparks has over 30 years of financial management experience throughout Asia and Europe. He has held senior financial management positions for major multinational companies in the computer and electronics industries.
Before his career in the electronics and computer industries, Mr. Sparks worked for 10 YEARS as project/financial advisor engaging in vocational training programs. He also served in the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Sparks holds a B.S. in Accounting and an Executive MBA from Hong Kong University. Currently he is Director and Partner with the Revella Group Project Management Engineering firm. He resides in Ruckersville, Virginia.

Daniel Fairley, II currently serves as an Area Coordinator for Housing and Residence Life at UVA. He recently hails from the University of Vermont, where he received his Master's of Education. He is a native Virginian and proud Richmond Spider. He is passionate about social justice and the intersections of masculinities and race.
